I cannot believe it. I sent my audition CD in on a whim, but I got a live callback! I have exactly one month to prepare...time to find a voice teacher! I'm so so so excited. It's just for a chorus position but I'd be a contracted, paid, professional, union member, opera singer. WOW.
In other news, Jo left today. It was pretty sad to see her go to be honest. It was just odd because we had been looking forward to this road trip for so long and today it ended. While it feels like forever since we've been on the road, it's still pretty odd to not have Jo around. She's definitely going to be missed.
Yesterday was another great day. Jo and I spent the late morning/early afternoon making a triple layer berry and brown sugar pavlova. See pictures below. It was the perfect summer dessert. After we picked Maggie up from work and Will up from daycare, we went to Breakers Water Park. Water is easily one of Will's favorite things, so this park was basically designed for him. He had a blast in the kiddie area and the wave pool. Maggie, Jo, and I took turns on a couple of the water slides. It was a small enough park that there weren't many people there. We were only there for an hour, but it was a lot of fun.
We then had what I consider to be the most delicious dinner so far. We had a black bean/quinoa salad with grilled pork chops. There was a plethora of lime juice and cilantro in both - what more could you ask for? Then our pavlova dessert was a perfect ending. Yum! We finished the game with a Pictionary re-match except we changed the teams. Again, it was a crazy good time.
Today I had an interview for a job - woo! It was a job as an assistant manager at a townhome/apartment community in Southern Tucson. The interview itself went well, but the job is odd. There are only two people working in the office, so it'd be pretty quiet I think. Regardless, who am I to turn down a job? They are conducting a second round of interviews next week because personality fit is really important.
We went to a pool party this evening at Maggie's old boss' house. I had fun playing with Will the entire night essentially. The whole time I was pretty much on a high about the San Diego Opera news. I'm starting to feel better about my ability to get a job. I also have an interview on Tuesday at the YMCA, so we'll see how that goes. I've been applying to a bunch of jobs in San Diego as well in hopes that I can just bypass Tucson and go straight to California.
Anyway, I'm going to upload some photos and then go search for a voice teacher!
