While I have not yet set off on my road trip, I need to start somewhere with this blogging process. I'm very excited about it and hope I get into the habit of writing a bit each night. Today Jo (my soon to be 17 year old sister) and I did some shopping for the trip. I've been working on planning out our stops, meals, how many miles per day, etc so it's time to really start getting ready to go!
We will be driving in a mini-van and so I must fit everything I own into the van. Without many seats, I've been pleasantly surprised with how much I can squeeze in there. Mind you, I'm taking nothing big...no bed, couch, or tv. I spent a large portion of yesterday cleaning the van inside and out since my dad had previously used it to carry the dogs around and as his "work truck." With 4 hours of elbow grease and Mr. Clean in the van, I think it's ready to go.
To save money, we will be camping for a majority of the trip. We didn't need to buy too much gear since we're not going to be stopped in one place for an extended period of time. I was pretty excited to buy my own one burner Coleman camping stove though! I also bought a small cooler, sleeping bag, and air fresheners for the van. I'm pretty excited.
Tomorrow Jo and I are going to plan out our meals more carefully. We got some great one-pot meal ideas from a family friend. We're looking for anything quick and easy that doesn't involve many (any) products that require refrigeration.
That's all for now. More to come.
